Euro 2016 - Television

Presenting live from the heart of Paris with the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, Gary Lineker leads a highly regarded team of pundits, commentators and reporters alongside Mark Chapman and Dan Walker, who will bring audiences the best access, insight and analysis via 26 live games on television.

Sitting alongside Lineker will be former England captains Alan Shearer and Rio Ferdinand, and France’s all-time top goalscorer and World Cup-winner, Thierry Henry.

Live games and a catch-up highlights programme will be broadcast on BBC One, while audiences can watch full match reruns on BBC Two in the early hours with another opportunity to see the big game of the day. BBC Four and the Red Button will also broadcast simultaneous games throughout the group stages. Full coverage across all channels amounts to 140 hours of network TV.

Moreover, the BBC will produce three network documentaries looking at the culture, nostalgia and impact of football across Europe and the year of 1966, when England were crowned World Cup winners (see additional programmes tab for full information).

Coverage begins on Wednesday 8 June at 10.45pm with a Euro 2016 preview programme on BBC One, presented by Gary Lineker, previewing the most anticipated matches, key players and talking points ahead of an action packed four weeks of football, plus reports from inside the camps of all the home nations.

All live matches will be broadcast on BBC One, with highlights including:

  • Saturday 11 June - Wales kick off their first game at a major tournament for 58 years, when they battle it out with Slovakia at 16:00 (KO 17:00)
  • Sunday 12 June - Michael O'Neill’s Northern Ireland kick off their campaign against Poland at 16:15 (KO 17:00) before world champions Germany face Ukraine at 19:30 (KO 20:00)
  • Monday 13 June - The Republic of Ireland take on Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Sweden in their opening game at 16:30 (KO 17:00) before one of the standout clashes of the group stage pits Gianluigi Buffon’s Italy against Eden Hazard’s Belgium at 19:30 (KO, 20:00)
  • Thursday 16 June - The unmissable moment of the opening week will see England’s blockbuster home nations clash with Wales on Thursday 16 June at 13:15 (KO, 14:00), with Gareth Bale aiming to derail the Three Lions’ journey through to the knockout stage of the Championship
  • The BBC will also broadcast all three of Portugal’s group games against Iceland (14 June, KO 20:00), Austria (18 June, KO 20:00) and Hungary (22 June, KO 17:00) as Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo aims to lead his team to European glory

The team of expert pundits will work alongside Match Of The Day mainstays and a well-established cast of former internationals including Danny Murphy, Jermaine Jenas, Robbie Savage, Martin Keown, John Hartson, Mark Lawrenson, Kevin Kilbane, Jens Lehmann, Neil Lennon, Gerry Armstrong, Chris Waddle, Danny Mills, Chris Brunt and Gerry Taggart.

Gabby Logan will provide all the latest news and reports from the England camp, Stephen Watson will follow Northern Ireland and Jason Mohammad will report from the Wales camp alongside regular Euro 2016 updates from Eilidh Barbour across the tournament.

An experienced TV commentary team will feature Guy Mowbray, Steve Wilson, Jonathan Pearce and Simon Brotherton.

In addition, we will showcase global as well as domestic programming, with 10 World Focus programmes from Paris.

Television coverage will be integrated with the best of social media, giving viewers the platform to share their views on the key talking points. The best user generated content will be curated and factored into broadcast, enabling fans to interact with presenters and pundits via a range of social networks.
