Roger Federer voted BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year 2017
The public have crowned Swiss tennis player Roger Federer as the BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year 2017.

The support that the UK crowds give me whenever I’m here is amazing, and to be recognised on the shortlist alongside some of the greatest sportspeople of all time is extremely humbling.
Federer was crowned the winner from a six-strong shortlist which included American football quarterback Tom Brady, swimmer Katie Ledecky, para-athlete Tatyana McFadden, athlete Sally Pearson, and darts player Michael van Gerwen. The public were invited to vote for their favourite on the BBC Sport website.
It has been an incredible year for Federer as he won the Australian Open title in January before becoming Wimbledon men’s singles’ champion for a record eighth time at the age of 36. Federer has now won the BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year award four times, more than any other sportsperson in the history of the competition.
Roger says: “It makes me incredibly proud that the UK public have chosen me as the BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year for 2017. The support that the UK crowds give me whenever I’m here is amazing, and to be recognised on the shortlist alongside some of the greatest sportspeople of all time is extremely humbling.”
The BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year award will be included in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony which takes place at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Sunday 17 December and is broadcast live on BBC One and the BBC Sport website at 6.45pm.
