Nominations open today for BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2017
BBC Sport begins its search for the Young Sports Personality of the Year 2017 as nominations are now open for the prestigious award.

The British sporting community and talent development systems continue to provide fantastic support to young athletes, and every year this nomination process reinforces the breadth and depth of ability in young people across the country.
Over the past 12 months we have witnessed some great achievements from our sports stars of the future and this award recognises their dedication, determination and excellence. From the shortlist of nominees, a panel of judges, including those from the sporting world, will decide the winner which will be announced at BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2017 on Sunday 17 December.
This year the awards show comes live from the Echo Arena in Liverpool and will also be broadcast live on BBC One.
Last year’s winner of BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year was swimmer Ellie Robinson, who won gold at the Rio Paralympics aged just 15. The Northampton teenager triumphed in the S6 50m butterfly final leaving with a Games record. Runners up for the accolade were Welsh rugby union player Keelan Giles and Olympic gymnastics bronze medallist Amy Tinkler.
Past winners have included Tom Daley, Sir Andy Murray, Claudia Fragapane, Ellie Simmonds and Theo Walcott.
This year, BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2017 has once again joined forces with Blue Peter to offer one young viewer the chance to join the panel to decide this year’s shortlist. The lucky viewer will be selected from those who have applied for a 2017 Blue Peter Sport Badge.
Will Roberts, Director of Operations, Youth Sport Trust says: “The British sporting community and talent development systems continue to provide fantastic support to young athletes, and every year this nomination process reinforces the breadth and depth of ability in young people across the country. To be nominated as the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year is a fantastic achievement, and the discussions around the shortlisting to a top 10 and then the ultimate winner is always a challenging process - simply because the level of performances is so high.”
Nominees have to be 17 and under on 1 January 2017. Nominations close on Thursday 16 November 2017. For full terms and conditions and to nominate a young sportsperson go to bbc.co.uk/sportspersonality. Nominations are submitted to the BBC and by sports governing bodies to the Youth Sport Trust.
