I can’t believe that I now have my very own Gold Blue Peter badge. It’s been amazing to have the viewers of Blue Peter so involved with my mission to space.

Tim’s mission to the International Space station began almost a year ago but Blue Peter viewers have been at the heart of his journey since 2014. A major competition was launched to design Tim’s mission patch with the winning design by Blue Peter viewer Troy proudly worn by Tim during his time in space and presenter Barney was lucky enough to visit Mission Control in January to speak directly to Tim on the Space Station.

Tim Peake says: "I can’t believe that I now have my very own Gold Blue Peter badge. It’s been amazing to have the viewers of Blue Peter so involved with my mission to space. I hope that I have shown them that anything is possible and I can’t wait till they are standing up here in years to come telling their own story of science and exploration."

Each year a handful of gold badges are awarded in recognition of outstanding achievements, bravery, inspiration and citizenship. The award marks the culmination of an incredible partnership between Tim and Blue Peter which has served to give a generation of children an unparalleled insight into space exploration.

Ewan Vinnicombe, Editor, Blue Peter says: "When Blue Peter began 58 years ago, our viewers could only dream of space exploration. Today, Tim Peake shows that any dream can become a reality. His tireless work and positivity has been an inspiration to thousands of our viewers and with his deserved Gold Blue Peter badge, he will be sure to inspire many more."

Viewers can watch Tim Peake receive his Gold Blue Peter badge on CBBC, Thursday 10 November at 5pm.
