It was the largest public rally since the Peterloo massacre in 1819. Thousands of people from the North West gathered in Albert Square to protest at Britain's involvement in the conflict.

Now war has started, anti-war protesters of all ages and ethnic groups have been staging demonstrations across the city.

Are you for or against the War in Iraq? Are you a Manchester marcher? Can protesters make a difference or are they just stopping traffic?
Have your opinions changed over the past few weeks? Have your say >>>

From Mike Chiocci in Golborne
Most of the students don't have a clue what the war is about anyway. They should stop complaining about their debts too, if they spent it on things they needed instead of getting drunk, taking drugs, cars, DVDs and holidays etc they wouldn't be so bad off. They should find an income, like being an officer cadet in the Territorial Army or Uni Air Squadron! They could even get the military to sponsor them and have a career as a soldier, salior or airman/woman at the end of their course!!

From Thomas Ryden in Bolton
wait until the truth comes out how the Iraqi people have been living the last 20 yrs or so! the peach marchers soon went away when the real truth came out about afganistan!! i have worked in the middle east and those people have restricted access even on the internet! they are downtrodden but unable to do anything about it, thay could never demonstrate in the streets unless its anti western.

From Sharon Henry in Manchester
I really am against the war, and wish there was another way to resolve the situation, but I can't think of one. Saddam Hussein has been given so many opportunities in the last few years to comply with peace negotiations, but all he has done is collect his weapons, mislead his people with false propaganda, and find about 10 look-a-likes and hide so that his misled people and soldiers do the dirty work for him. "Give peace a chance" really is not an option here. People who think and protest that there is another way should come up with realistic and viable options instead of living in fairy land. Protests at the moment are like shutting the stable door once the horse has bolted. They are too late by many years and offer no realistic solutions to the problems. All they are doing are causing massive traffic problems and wasting valuable police and other emergency services time, at a time when we may need them most. We ARE at war sadly, and no amount of blocki! ng major roads and cities, and recruiting school children will change anything. The best we can all hope for is a quick end to the war and to hope that there are as fewer casualties as possible. I hate war and I can't understand why anyone would want to be in the armed forces, trained to kill or be killed, but at times like this I think we should all support those involved in the conflict and their families. If you don't think war is right, and you want to do something about it, stop causing local mayhem and provide the world with your own real, working strategies. Until you can do this, I think you should stay quiet.

From Shahid in Manchester
you all got to understand who supplied the weapons of mass destruction to Saddam to gas the Kurds...yep the AMERICANS and BRITAIN!!!! now they have turned their back on their best friend Saddam all for oil. thats a bit hypocritical of them isnt it!!!then need to be brought forward and tried for TREASON!! and another thing did the people who were complaining about the kids bunkin school even ask them what they thought of the war.if they did they would have had better answers then the people who are pro-war and dont even know why.GET YR FACTS RIGHT BEFORE YOU SAY WE SHOULD BOMB IRAQ!!!!!
