Avant-garde Birmingham group The Guillemots are impossible to pigeon-hole. Their sound, led by the dynamic singer-songwriter Fyfe Dangerfield (yes, that is his name), is an eclectic and eccentric mix of jazz, pop and rock that somehow works. Very well.

The band came together in the strangest of ways, apparently involving a less-than utopian utopian village, a free buffet and a man who could ‘play’ a typewriter and a matchbox (email in your questions if you want to find out more!). With a background like this, it’s no wonder the critics seemed a bit bemused when the band first burst onto the music scene in 2006, but doubters were soon won over.

They’re back with a brand new album (Red) and a brand new single (Get Over It), a brand new sax player/singer called Ruth Phoenix, and a brand new number one fan, Sir Paul McCartney, who says they’re his favourite new band.
