Having just caned TW2003 I was probably the best person to review this game. Armed with finely honed technique and the ability to drive like Arnie on steroids and spin the ball like one of the Harlem Globetrotters I launched right in... and WOW, THIS GAME ROCKS!!! Now, TW2003 rocked too, and was far and away the best golf game seen on any format so-far, but with hindsight (and a copy of TW2004) it was a bit rough around the edges and could be improved. TW2004 has delivered the goods big time and has bettered almost every aspect of the game; adding new features and play modes by the bucket load, sharpening up the graphics and giving more courses to choose from. Even the commentary is bearable! Being and egomaniac as I am, my favourite new addition is the "Game Face" feature where you are able to design the look of your golfer to look like who (or what) you want. You could have Pamela Anderson vs. Carmen Electra playing a round together if you are a frustrated 14-year-old lad who likes to occasionally grip the end of a stiff shaft! or Saddam vs. Bush if you are a grown up. I of course just spent my time trying to create simulacra (great word - look it up) of myself and "Mrs" Dr Leevil and think that I ended up with something passable. Although I have been asked "why is Mr Potato Head playing golf with the Witch from Wizard of OZ?" I admit that I am not renowned for my artistic side. Finally, once you have designed your player you then (as with TW2003) progress through challenges and tournaments to earn dollars to spend on buying attributes, equipment and clothing to improve you player's characteristics or sense of style. Mr Potato Head meets gay chic... Hmmm, nice! Eventually you end up with a player that can easily drive the ball over 350 yards consistently land the ball within three feet of the pin and takes and average of 57.8 strokes per round. You wish! It took a lot of caffeine, sleep deprivation and sick days to get this good! All I can say is that if you like golf games YOU MUST BUY THIS GAME, and if you don't like golf games YOU MUST BUY THIS GAME TOO! Watch out Tony! Cos this is the Tiger's testicles! 9/10 Dr Leevil |
