So you think your good at games? Really?

Space Tripper is perhaps one of the best games I've played. Not for its graphics, not for its sound but for its sheer game play. This is a game where you have no super weapon, no shields, no friends, no plot, and no story.

Just blast or be blasted!

This type of game has been attempted before with limited success, but Space Tripper has got it spot on. This is arcade action at its purest, how games should be.

Basically you control a little spacecraft that can move up, down left and right along the level. The levels themselves are a spark of genius. Instead of being stuck travelling in one direction, you can go either way (whatever you say Mithias!! Ed), as can your enemies.

This means you have to watch your back constantly if you want to last longer than a few seconds. You can flip your spacecraft over to shoot in the other direction, a nice touch.

You have two different fire modes, forward firing and widespread. Trust me, you need both. It is impossible to survive just using one fire mode throughout the game.

There are powerups to collect that upgrade your weapon, but which weapon is up to you since you can only upgrade the weapon you are currently using. And before you go thinking better weapons makes the game easier, think again.

The game only gets tougher.

The enemies range from little bee type things to great big boss tanks. All of which will quite happily appear at the same time and surround you. To top off the sheer toughness, you're given only three lives, each of which can be taken away with a single shot.

The graphics put into this game are fantastic. By using a 3D engine they are able to make the levels 3D. That's right, some of the levels have bridges in them, which means major mind warp. Uphill and downhill shooting is not uncommon. Did I mention the fact you can fall off if your not careful?

Put quite simply, this game will make you discover how bad at games you actually are. It needs the reflexes of a cat. It will never cheat you, if you die its your fault, not the game's.

It will make you come back for more and more and more until you reach the last level. And you'll soon discover that is no easy task.

So how good a games did you say you were?
