Since the launch of their big range of games a while back, EA has produced a collection of great looking, extremely playable titles - SSX Tricky and NBA Street being my favourites. Crisp colourful graphics and sensible controls all adding to an interesting take on what has become a bit of a grey area with developers - the majority of these kinds of games being very formulaic, making this EA range stand out a little from the norm. It's for these reasons that it's hard to believe this game is so bad. OK so American football is not my usual bag but I'm willing to give anything a try once. With this game believe me, once is more than enough. Half the time running around like a maniac trying to spot where the ball is and the other half getting your head round the unnecessarily cumbersome controls which doesn't make for a memorable experience trust me. Even the ubiquitous game breaker fails to add any enjoyment to the proceedings. Graphically, this wouldn't look out of place on the PS1 and the hip 'street' slang will have soon have you reaching for the volume knob. The whole thing looks and feels as if someone slipped the cleaning lady $50 and told her to go make a game. Even a hardcore fan of American football (come on, there must be some!) would fail to derive any pleasure from this rancid effort. Everything about this game feels rushed and unloved and so clunky you could hurt somebody with it. There is a place for this game. That place is the 'street' Take it away. My brain hurts. You have been warned. 2/10 Thrice Nightly Whiteley |
