Andy Swan and his wife were enjoying a spot of good weather in the garden of their home in the Abbey Lane area of Leicester when their weekend was rudely interupted! A lump of blue frozen waste smashed into the roof of the house covering the couple in tile debris and lumps of the icy substance. BBC Leicester's Bridget Blair has been to find out more about the potentially lethal "pennies from heaven"...Andy described the waste as smelling very strongly, with a particularly pungent whiff of urine as it began to thaw and break up.  | | Lumps of the blue waste... |
A lump of the matter is currently residing in the Leicester couple's freezer for insurance purposes, and although it is triple wrapped Andy is pretty sure they'll be throwing any frozen food sharing the space away! Airline waste is usually dropped from planes over the sea so it is quite odd that some seems to have been dropped in landlocked Leicestershire! Very RareBBC Leicester contacted East Midlands Airport to see if they could track which airline the plane was from... but they say no arrivals at the airport from the south were in their airspace at that time. The insurance company the Swan's are with haven't had to deal with a claim like this before. In a statement they said:  | | Debris from the roof... |
"Whilst there's no denying the unusual circumstances from which this claim arose, for us it's very much business as usual as Mr. Swan's Home and Contents Policy covers him against the damage caused to his roof and any other damaged items and we are working on settling his claim as quickly as possible." Thankfully, while incidents like this are exceptionally rare, we would take this opportunity to urge individuals to check their policies regularly and to discuss any questions or potential changes with their insurer." So at least there's some good news - the sky isn't falling down! |
