The White Cloth Hall provides a direct link with Leeds' heritage as the premier cloth market of the West Riding. Tucked away behind the Corn Exchange and hemmed in by the railway it's worth searching out.
"Originally started in 1770, only parts of the original cloth hall building exist. When it was complete it was a very imposing building, we can only get a limited impression of how it looked when it extended down to The Calls and was a full rectangle.
The railway slicing through
"When the railway system was extended through the town centre part of the building was literally sliced off by the new viaduct.
"It has been sympathetically restored by the pizza restaurant that now occupies some of the building. It was a cornerstone of Leeds' prosperity.
