Queen gives medal to health service

The Queen has awarded the George Cross to the NHS as the health service marks its 73rd anniversary on Monday. In a personal message, the Queen said NHS staff across the UK had worked "with courage, compassion and dedication" for more than 70 years. The story

Queen Elizabeth has awarded one of Britain’s highest honours, the George Cross, to the National Health Service. In a handwritten message, the Queen praised the courage, compassion and dedication of NHS staff since the publicly funded service was set up in the aftermath of the Second World War.
