Hi. My name's Charlene Hamilton. I'm playing the role of Sarah.
That's right. I was walking the dogs. It's gorgeous up there – light's amazing.
I guess it was... I was probably, like, eight or nine. I went to see Miss Saigon at Drury Lane in London and after that performance I was blown away and I was like, 'Yeah, I'm going to become an actor – I'm going to perform.' So, yeah.
I did play – I was supposed to be a twin sister and the character had a slight stutter. So I... I felt that was quite challenging because each sentence was... I had to, kind of, repeat certain things and I lost train of thought a lot of the time. So, yeah, that was very challenging for me.
So, I kind of have a method of having to read the whole script first, not actually concentrating on any character in particular. And then I read it again and, kind of, get a back story of my character by, kind of, dissecting my dialogue and also, kind of, analysing how the other characters react to me. And it's also, kind of... you do have to use your imagination quite a lot as well. So, I kind of try and picture her, like... her everyday routines. So, she wakes up at so-so... what time? What does she eat for breakfast? What clothes does she wear? So, it's basically just, kind of, analysing and doing my own kind of research and creating my own character that way.
I guess just constantly repeating and repeating. Also, if there is another person in the scene, I always try and read out their lines – so, on my dictaphone – I'll read out their lines and then I'll leave a space for a few seconds for my response. So, then when I kind of play it back, I'm kind of talking to that person. And then it's just basically repetition. Also your thought process as well – that also helps me. So, I kind of need to know what I'm... what I'm doing, and also, like, my actions and that, kind of, links to the next, kind of, sentences. So, yeah.
One in particular just, kind of, came up: it's Tom Hanks. He is just... he's just so, so, like... you just don't know if he's acting or not, on screen. And I don't... I can't think of one bad film he's done. Yeah, he's so, like, naturalistic – I can watch him for ever. And no, I don't think I can do an impersonation. The only thing I can think of is when, in Castaway, he goes: '...WILSON!'
But that's about it. It's pretty rubbish – sorry...!
