ਤਾਂ ਨੇਲ਼ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੌਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰੇਗਾ। ਉਸਨੇ ਸਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਕਿ ਜੌਨ ਨੇ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈਲਨ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ‘with a pinch of salt’ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੀ ਮੰਨੇ। ‘Take’ ਮਤਲਬ ਲੈਣਾ ਅਤੇ ‘pinch’ ਇੱਕ ਚੁਟਕੀ ਅਤੇ ‘salt’ ਮਤਲਬ ਨਮਕ ਜਾਂ ਲੂਣ। ਅਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਇਜ਼ਹਾਰ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਸਹੀ ਪਰ ਉਸ ਉੱਪਰ ਪੂਰਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਨਾ ਕਰੀਏ। ਬਸ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਥੋੜ੍ਹਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਚੁਟਕੀ ਭਰ ਹੀ ਸੱਚ ਮੰਨੀਏ। ਜੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਗੱਲ ‘with a pinch of salt’ ਮੰਨੋ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਝੂਠ ਨਿਕਲਣ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਹੈਰਾਨੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ। ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਮੁਹਾਵਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਕਿਰਿਆ ‘take’ ਨਾਲ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਪਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸ਼ਬਦ pinch ਨੂੰ ‘grain’ ਨਾਲ ਬਦਲ ਸਕਦੇ ਹੋ। ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਗੱਲ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ‘take it ਨੂੰ take that’ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂ ‘take what someone says’ ਦਾ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਵੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹੋ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਭ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ‘with a pinch of salt’ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
