Euro 2020: Player has heart attack

Danish footballer Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during his team’s Euro 2020 match against Finland. His teammates formed a ring around him – many were in tears.

The cameras eventually switched to shots of the stadium. Eriksen was taken to hospital and in now recovering. The Danish team doctor has said that Eriksen suffered cardiac arrest – also known as a heart attack.

The game was abandoned temporarily but continued once the players had been told Eriksen was awake.

The story

Eriksen collapsed suddenly towards the end of the first half of Denmark’s match against Finland. While he was being treated by medics on the ground, his visibly shocked teammates formed a ring around him.

And soon after, television in Denmark cut away to aerial shots of the stadium. Eriksen was given CPR on the pitch, before being carried away on a stretcher.
