ਹੈਲੋ, English Expressions ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਹੈ। ਅਜਿਹਾ ਸ਼ੋਅ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸੀਂ ਇੰਗਲਿਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ
ਨਵੇਂ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ਾਂ, ਨਵੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਵਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਸਿੱਖਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
ਮੈਂ ਇੰਦਰਜੀਤ ਤੇ ਅੱਜ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਿੱਖਾਂਗੇ ਇੰਗਲਿਸ਼ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਵਤ ‘‘out of the picture’’ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ। ‘‘ ਫ਼ੋਟੋ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ...?’’ ਕੀ ਸੋਚਦੇ ਹੋ, ਕੀ ਹੋਉ ਇਸਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ? ਕੁਛ ਪੱਕਾ ਨਹੀਂ ? ਠੀਕ ਹੈ, ਸੁਣਦੇ ਰਹੋ।

ਫ਼ਿਨ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ੇਫ਼ੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣੋ। ਫ਼ਿਨ, ਫ਼ੇਫ਼ੇ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਫ਼ੋਟੋਆਂ ਖਿੱਚਣ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ। ਫ਼ਿਨ ਨੇ ਫ਼ੇਫ਼ੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਖਿੱਚੀਆਂ ਕੁੱਝ ਚੰਗੀਆਂ ਫ਼ੋਟੋਆਂ ਦਿਖਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਉਸਦੀਆਂ ਪਸੰਦੀਦਾ ਫ਼ੋਟੋਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੀ ਹੈ ?

ਫ਼ਿਨ, ਫ਼ੇਫ਼ੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਖਿੱਚੀਆਂ ਕੁੱਝ ਫ਼ੋਟੋਆਂ ਦਿਖਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।ਕੁਸ਼ ਯਾਦ ਹੈ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ, ਫ਼ੋਟੋਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੌਣ ਲੋਕ ਸਨ? ਇਕ ਐਨ ਸੀ, ਫ਼ਿਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿਕਾ ਅਤੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ‘ਫ਼ਲੈਟਮੇਟ’, ‘flatmate’ ਜੌਨੀ। ਕੀ ਸੋਚਦੇ ਹੋ ਜਿਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਫ਼ਿਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹਾਲੇ ਵੀ ਉਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ? ਸੁਣੋ ਤੇ ਪਤਾ ਕਰੋ।

Finn, you keep talking about having your friends out of the picture… I want my friend to be in the picture!

Oh, Feifei, no. Ann and Johnny appear in some of my snaps. But Ann is not my girlfriend anymore. She ran away with a Frenchman…

Feifei
Oh… and what happened to Johnny?

"Dirty Socks" Johnny moved out. He used to leave his socks everywhere!

Feifei
Oh, so you are no longer in touch with them.

Exactly. In English, when we say someone is "out of the picture" we mean we don't count on them anymore. They are no longer involved in a particular situation.

ਫ਼ਿਨ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ‘‘out of the picture’’ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਦੋਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰੀਸਥਿਤੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਿਹਾ। ਫ਼ਿਨ ਦੀ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿਕਾ ਆਈਫ਼ਲ ਟਾਵਰ ਵਾਲੀ ਫ਼ੋਟੋ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਉਹ ‘out of the picture ’,‘ ਫ਼ੋਟੋ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ’ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਹੁਣ ਉਹ ਫ਼ਿਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿਕਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਨ ਦਾ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਫ਼ਲੈਟਮੇਟ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਉਹਦੇ ਘਰ, ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਖਾਣੇ ਵਾਲੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੀ ਫ਼ੋਟੋ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਉਹ ਵੀ ‘out of the picture ’,‘ ਫ਼ੋਟੋ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ’ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸਨੇ ਘਰ ਬਦਲ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ‘out of the picture ’ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਹੁਣ ਉਹ ਫ਼ਿਨ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।
