Useful expressions

1. shrouded

Shrouded એટલે કંઈકથી ઢંકાયેલું. Shroud નો શાબ્દિક અર્થ થાય છે કપડાં દ્વારા મૃત શરીરને ઢાંકવું. લાક્ષણિક રીતે ઉપયોગ કરતી વખતે તેનો અર્થ નકારાત્મક થઈ જાય છે.

• Identity of hackers shrouded in mystery.
• Highway closed as bridge shrouded by fog.

2. linger

Linger એટલે એક જગ્યાએ નિયત કરતાં વધુ સમય સુધી રોકાવવું. Linger નો સામાન્યતઃ નકારાત્મક સંદર્ભમાં ઉપયોગ થાય છે. આ જણાવે છે કે કંઈકથી મુક્ત થવું સરળ નથી.

• Doubts linger about candidate
• Cold weather to linger until next month

3. decry

Decry એટલે કંઈકનો તીવ્ર રીતે અસ્વીકાર કરવો. Decry ઔપચારિક શબ્દ છે અને સામાન્યતઃ લખાણમાં ઉપયોગ કરવામાં આવે છે.

• Fans decry coach's team selection.
• Unions decry falling wages.
