Gerald Jackson opens with BBC Radio Lancashire's Ben Thomson talking about the DAB revolution... Benefits of DABNo interference and better sound quality No more re-tuning Sets have a multi media screen offering information and services such as weather. You can get much more channels. Stations such as Five Live, 1xtra, BBC 7, World Music and channels designed for children are open to you. In Lancashire, for instance, you can pick up 40 channels as opposed to 10 on FM. Audio and Video links on this page require Realplayer Digital radio is taking over the airwaves - providing far more choice of stations, superb quality with no interference and no more faffing about re-tuning! But not everyone can get a DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) reception at the moment for your favourite station - BBC Radio Lancashire - CHANNEL 12A, Frequency 223.936. Ben Thomson cuts out the jargon and gives top tips on getting the most from digital radio. Thomson's top tips:1. Check out if you can get reception in your area before you buy. See if you get DAB coverage: 2. Postcodes are a rough guide. Some streets have coverage in one part of the street and houses on the same street don't even though they share the same postcode. Generally, if you get good FM and mobile phone reception - and you get channel 5 then you should well be in a strong area to get a good signal. 3. Get a dual tuner. If you get a digital radio with DAB and FM - you are guaranteed to get a reception for BBC Radio Lancashire. 4. You get what you pay for. Dearer sets come with external aerials. If you buy a cheaper digital radio set then buy a booster. Boosters are about £15 and can revolutionise your reception. 5. Select to do a full tune rather than a quick tune and then you never need to do it again. 6. When you tune your set - do it near a window as it helps pick up stations quicker. 7. Don't forget BBC Lanc! Dispelling the mythDigital TV roll out is total separate to digital radio so analogue radios aren't disappearing for some years to come. last updated: 25/07/07 You are in: Lancashire > Radio Lancashire > Listen Again > Big Boys' Toys |
