Public Accounts - Senator Shenton

Both candidates have pleaded their case for becoming Chairman of the Public Acccounts Committee. Members have voted and Senator Shenton is the new Chaiman of the Public Accounts Committe after receiving 33 votes to Senator Fergusons 19.

Senator Shenton has finished his speech and is now taking questions from members. The question session will last twenty minutes after which we should get the result of the PPC vote. After the PPC result Senator Ferguson will address the assembly.

Priviledges and Procedures - Constable Gallichan

Deputy Gallichan has been named as Chairman of the Priviledges and Procedures Committee after receiving 32 votes to Senator Syvrets 19. There was one spoilt paper.

A considerable amount of lobbying is likely to take place over the next one and a half hours as Members try to work out whether they will become an Assistant Minister or not - before deciding whether to stand for a Scrutiny post.

Housing - Senator Breckon

Senator Terry Le Main has been re-elected as Housing Minister with 27 votes to Senator Breckons 25.

Members have voted to meet back at 15:00. When they return they will first appoint the Chairman of the Priviledges and Proceedures Committee. Votes for Committee Chairmen work in the same way as votes for Ministerial positions.

When the Housing Minister has been chosen each of the new Ministers and the Chief Minister will officially take office.

Senator Terry Le Main has started his speech to the house in the hope of winning their votes to become Housing Minister. Senator Breckon has left the chamber for a room away from the chamber.

Each candidate has ten minutes to speak and will face 20 minutes of questions. There will then be a vote after which members will break for lunch before voting on the committees and panels.

He will compete against Senator Alan Breckon. The debate will take place after the voting rounds have finished for Education Minister.

Education, Sport and Culture - Deputy Reed

Deputy James Reed has won the vote to become Minister for Education, Sport and Culture with 31 votes to Deputy Herrissiers 22.

The final votes for Education, Sport and Culture Minister have been cast. Members have to chose between Deputy Herrissier and Deputy Reed.

The third ballot between Senator Routier and Deputy Reed saw the Deputy for St Ouen go through to the next round against Deputy Herrissier after getting 29 votes to 23 cast for Senator Routier.

That's now the second vote Senator Routier has lost in this series of votes for the make up of the Council of Ministers. It's also the second of the Chief Ministers Ministerial choices to be rejected.

The second round of voting has taken place and 16 votes went to Senator Routier, 16 to Deputy Reed and 20 to Deputy Herrissier.

A third ballot will now take place between Senator Routier and Deputy Reed. The winner of this ballot will go into a final ballot against Deputy Herrissier.

States Members are back in the house ready to vote for the Education, Sport and Culture Minister, the Housing Minister and to appoint chairmen of the various panels and committees.

There are four people hoping to take on the role of Education Minister - as a candidate needs at least half the vote to get elected there may be multiple ballots with a candidate being eliminated in each round - until one candidate has 50% or more.

There are four candidates for the role of Education, Sport and Culture Minister.

Senator Paul Routier was nominated for Education, Sport and Culture by Senator Terry Le Sueur. He will be against Deputy Reed, Deputy Martin and Deputy Le Herrisier for the role.

The debate and vote will take place tomorrow after a proposition by Deputy Martin called for members to carry on tonight was rejected 44 votes to seven.

Senator Stuart Syvret has proposed an adjournment until tomorrow - voting for the final two Ministries in the morning. Deputy Martin suggested the opposite - voting for the rest of the Ministries tonight - starting on scrutiny panels tomorrow.

The Constable of St Brelade, Michael Jackson received 33 vote to Deputy Duhamels 19. Constable Michael Jackson is the new Minister for Transport and Technical Services.

Deputy Ian Gorst has won the vote for Social Security Minister. The Chief Ministers nominee received 36 votes to Deputy Southern's 16.

Senator Perchard is the new Minister for Health and Social Services beating the Chief Minister Designates nominee, Senator Paul Routier. Senator Routier received 21 votes to Senator Perchard's 31.

Senator Le Sueur is now free to re-arrange his nomination list if he wants to put Senator Routier in another post.

Jersey's Planning Minister has been returned unopposed. Senator Freddie Cohen will carry out the role for a second term.

So far he is the only Minister to have been returned unopposed

Senator Cohen is one of only two existing Ministers Jersey Chief-Minister Elect, Senator Terry Le Sueur, wants to keep in their old role.
