Cuidiú le Cuntas is a mathematics resource for children between 5 and 7 years old where you enter a magical world of numbers and strange creatures. Rabbit, Fox and Bird will guide you through three different sets of enjoyable number games designed to encourage strategic mathematical thinking and problem solving.
Cuidiú le Cuntas begins when Rabbit, Fox and Bird leave their home under the mountain for the first time and go looking for adventure. You can click on the button in the bottom right hand corner to skip the intro and go directly to the crossroads. Here you can choose which animal's activities you want to play by clicking on Rabbit, Fox or Bird.
There are two kinds of activities associated with each animal:
•The Explore Activities are open ended tasks where children are encouraged to explore and 'do their own thing'
•The Games have a defined aim that children should aim to achieve in the least possible number of turns. There are 60 games in each section, divided in to 6 groups of 10 games of increasing difficulty. Games can be played in any order.
After completing a game you can:
• watch a music video about problem solving (click on TV Screen icon).
• watch a replay of the game.
• play the game again if you want to improve your score (click on Arrow icon).
Handy Hints
If a child experiences difficulty completing a game, the following hints may help:
• The tenth game on every level is locked, and can only be unlocked by winning gold in the preceding nine games in the level.
• After level 3 in all characters' games there is a significant increase in the level of difficulty.
• The number of turns required to win gold changes from game to game - for example, in one game eight turns may be sufficient to win gold, whereas the next game may require more than twenty turns. The number of turns needed to win gold is not an indication that one game is more difficult than another.
• To turn off the music, press 'Ctrl' and 'M' on the keyboard.
