  1. That's all for this week - but you can still donate to Sport Relief!published at 21:29 GMT 27 January 2016

We'll be back with more Great Sport Relief Bake Off coverage next Wednesday at the earlier time of 8pm, so don't forget to join us next week when ex-Labour politician Ed Balls, writer and presenter Victoria Coren Mitchell, sports commentator Chris Kamara and Girls Aloud singer and actress Kimberley Walsh will be gracing the Bake Off tent (and dusting it with more than a little bit of icing sugar).

And of course, you can donate to Sport Relief, external in the meantime - it really does make a difference both here in the UK and across the world's poorest communities. See what we mean on the Sport Relief website, external.

We'd also love to see your pictures of your own Sport Relief bakes - send them to us using the hashtag #GBBOSportRelief.

Until then - goodbye and thanks for joining us! (Here's a tasty clip from next week's episode to keep you going...)

  4. The four await their fatepublished at 21:26 GMT 27 January 2016

The bakers are doing their best to don straight faces, but clearly have a case of the giggles as they wait to hear the announcement. (And poor Jason is sporting mysteriously green fingers!)

  6. Who's taking the first title?published at 21:25 GMT 27 January 2016

Maddy's Showstopper has clearly impressed the judges, but it looks like Sam Cam's Showstopper cake has delighted the judges. Jason's Showstopper looks like it's sunk him out of the contest, and David's pretty much discounted at this point.

  7. "The interior of your cake does not portray what's on the outside"published at 21:25 GMT 27 January 2016

Will David score a touchdown with his American football trophy cake?

It's time for Mary and Paul to meet David's HUGE trophy, which almost resembles a gold edition of Darth Vader's melted helmet. (Just us? No? Verdicts to #GBBOSportRelief please!)

The tent collapses into laughter as the judges are acquainted with the Bake Off behemoth.

Mary counts a whopping five layers of sponge before tucking in and... it tastes really good! (Although Paul hasn't found any of the advertised chocolate chips in the sponge yet.)

    "Well done David," Mel says.

It's time for the winner to be decided...

  8. "I think overall your idea was very good"published at 21:24 GMT 27 January 2016

Could Jason's Ashes trophy cake take the Star Baker title?

"I think you've done a very good effort but it's just a little on the clumsy side," Mary says nicely. Jason agrees.

"What's difficult for us is to try the trophy..."

"Because it's such an iconic trophy," Jason says, interrupting Paul.

"...Because it's still wet," Paul finishes, going in for a taste. Jason looks terrified.

Mary discovers Jason's jam is overcooked and proceeds to give him a masterclass.

"The sponges are a little bit dry... The buttercream is alright!" Paul says (this is Sport Relief, after all).

Jason's ambition looks like it's got the better of him...

  9. "I think it looks great fun"published at 21:22 GMT 27 January 2016

Will Mary and Paul go large for Sam's surf cake?

"You must have used a ton of sugar paste on this," Paul says, as Mary admires Sam's decoration - which features well crafted waves that Mary takes delight in. He cuts into the cake to reveal Sam's strawberry surprise. "Oooh, that's fun!" Mary coos.

"It's very well executed and you should feel proud of yourself," Paul says, after admiring Sam's sponge and filling.

  10. "Overall I think you've done something that's quite elegant"published at 21:22 GMT 27 January 2016

The judges give their verdict on Maddy's yoga mat trophy

"It looks good, you can see it's a mat," Paul observes.

"I'm not actually sure what a yoga mat is," Mary confesses, "I don't do yoga." She is, however, impressed with the Swiss roll spiral Maddy's pulled out of her (gym) bag.

Both Mary and Paul are being a tad dubious about whether it counts as a trophy though, the spoilsports.

"It cuts well," Paul said, tucking in.

"It's quite a close textured sponge, but because you've put lots of cream and jam in, it makes it nice to eat," Mary says.

Paul also commends the bake - particularly the flavour of the sponge.

  11. Seconds out - it's judging time!published at 21:21 GMT 27 January 2016

The metaphorical full-time whistle has blown - but what will the judges think of our bakers' final masterpieces? And, perhaps more importantly, will David's sponge helmet taste better than it looks!?

  12. Plinth-gatepublished at 21:20 GMT 27 January 2016

"David, helmet on plinth!" Mel orders, as David attempts to finish his cake. "It's just so heavy," he pants, before the helmet begins to slide. Mel leaps to its rescue - and is soon joined by Sam Cam and Maddy. "It's ripping!" Mel panics.

  14. David's spooked by his Showstopperpublished at 21:19 GMT 27 January 2016

David's attempted to coat his sponges in fondant, but has somehow managed to create a ghost, rather than a helmet as intended. Mel leaps into action.

  15. "No wonder it's Sport Relief, I'm knackered!"published at 21:19 GMT 27 January 2016

The bakers are in the final furlong of the challenge, and Jason's joy has started to fade. His battenburg isn't as easy to coat in fondant as he expected. "I can't believe I've fallen at the last hurdle," he whimpers.

Feeling up to the challenge of baking for Sport Relief? Why not order a Bake Off fundraising kit, external?

  17. Jason pounds 'Paul's face'published at 21:18 GMT 27 January 2016

"Get the old stress out, imagine that's Paul's face," a mischievous Mel says to Jason as he kneads his green fondant.

"I'll just give it a little kiss there," Jason giggles.

"You creep!" Mel says, enjoying every second.

  18. "Jamo, we make this work"published at 21:18 GMT 27 January 2016

David's self-coaching as he starts to construct his sponge helmet - but he's definitely further behind the others and their more modestly sized Showstoppers: Sam Cam's trophy base is finished, Jason's trophy is wrapped in fondant and Maddy's sprayed her yoga mat gold already.

  19. David turns scientistpublished at 21:17 GMT 27 January 2016

The clock is ticking and David's trying to dream up ways of ensuring his final sponge cooks in the middle.

"If I stick a metal spoon in there, it will cook because the spoon will become a conductor of heat and cook the middle," he theorises.

"Come again?" Lab assistant Mel queries. "Keep the spoon in as you cook it? David, you're a genius! You're breaking the blooming boundaries of baking!"

"I've got to try, haven't I?" David decides, before discovering the spoons have run out. He settles for a fork instead.

(Please note, this form of experimental cooking is not endorsed by Mary, Paul, or anyone at the BBC.)
