Górecki had only an abandoned fragment of a string quartet when he met with the Kronos Quartet in the late 1980s. That fragment became the atmospheric Already it is dusk (1988) which provoked two further commissions from the group, including the melancholy epic Quasi una fantasia (1991). We welcome the Silesian String Quartet, from the area in which Gorecki was born, to perform these two evocative works.
