You might not know Dyo, but you've certainly heard her voice. Under her former name, Ms D, she sang on the number one hits Oopsy Daisy, by Chipmunk; and Heatwave, by Wiley.

Last year, she scored a top five hit with the saucy club anthem Sexual - which was today nominated for an Ivor Novello Award for best contemporary song. She told the BBC how it came about.

Q: Congratulations on the nomination. Are you excited?

I’m feeling really happy. This is one of those awards you never feel you’re going to be nominated for.

Q: You've had number ones before. Did this song feel different?

Yeah - even though I’m still a featured artist. I guess it’s because I'm singing the whole way through the song. When I hear it on advert or something, I’m like, “Oh my God – this is mine!”

Q: Why do you think it caught on the way it did?

Probably the fact that people get to shout "sexual!". It gives you a reason to say bad things. It’s one of those songs that children sing, even though they shouldn’t.

Q: What did your parents think of the lyrics?

Oh my God! My mum was like, “Is this how you really feel?” She was under the impression the music industry makes you do things you really don’t want to do. And I was like, “Mum, it’s really not that deep. It’s just a fun song.”

Q: It was written with Swedish dance producer Neiked... How did it come about?

I wasn’t in a sexual mood when I wrote it! I was actually freezing cold in Sweden and I thought, ‘I need to write something that’s going to make me feel good right now, and make everyone else happy.’

I remember me and Neiked were going back and forth on the lyrics and I was like, ‘Should I say 'sexual'? Is that a bit out there? Should it be something else?’

And he was very relaxed about the whole thing,. He said, ‘Go with that. Everybody loves sex.’ He didn’t bat an eyelid.

Q: If you'd changed it to something else, what would it have been?

The alternative lyrics was: ‘I want you to get it up!'

He was like, ‘I think that’s somewhat worse. Sexual is the way to go.’

Intergenerational rock band Mystery Jets were nominated for an Ivor Novello Award earlier today, thanks to their song Telomere.

The spiralling, anthemic tune is essentially a science homework that got out of hand... as Blaine and his father, Henry, explained.

Q: Am I right in thinking telomeres are part of our DNA?

Henry: Telomeres are like the ends of your shoelaces – they hold together the DNA fragments and stop them from fraying.

Blaine: They’re called flugelbinders in German.

Henry: They get shorter as the cells multiply and divide, and that determines the span of our lives, and also our propensity towards cancer, for example. So the song is dealing with a very big subject but hopefully in an accessible way.

Q: How long did it take to write?

Blaine: The chorus came five years before the verse – and that’s not unusual. These musical ideas often appear as fragments and don’t find their counterparts until months, or even years, later.

Q: Do you remember the first song you wrote together?

    Henry: What was it? Rastamadeus?

Blaine: Probably. That was a fictional song about Bob Marley meeting Mozart on Portobello Road.

Henry: Blaine would have been about six or seven.

Q: You're inspired by bands like King Crimson and Yes - but what did you grow up listening to?

Blaine: I grew up when the war of Britpop was on. I vividly remember my dad bringing me a copy of Mojo or Uncut with Supergrass on the front of it, and he said, “This. Is. The. Enemy.”

So Britpop was almost the force we were fighting against as young, prog rock, aspiring wizards.

Henry: But in time our songs have got more poppy.

Well better make that Fizzy after a woman was arrested for breaking into his mansion and drinking a load of his pop.

The criminal's swag amounted to merely $10 worth of soda and water.

The Cops told American publication TMZ, external that a member of Drake's crew walked into the house and found a 24-year-old woman in one of the bedrooms, wearing one of Drake's hoodies.

The lady was arrested and charged with felony burglary.

No-one knows how she got in there or what she was doing there but she did apparently 'fess up to helping herself to Pepsi, Sprite and Fiji water.

Must be thirsty work, breaking and entering.

But like all good things it comes to a tragic end.

    Or does it?

They've shared a new *Sliding Doors style video for their track Stay.

It sees young Alessia and the Russian producer staying in a fleabag motel far below their status as successful young things and in one version they meet and in the other...well, they dont.

Turns out hanging out with Alessia ain't too good for Zedd's health.

*For anyone who hasn't seen the 90s rom-com, starring actress and lifestyle guro Gwyneth Paltrow, it alternates between two parallel universes.
