  2. If you thought 2016 was bad...published at 15:41 GMT 13 December 2016

    James BluntImage source, Getty Images

...then guess who's back in 2017?

Say what you like about James Blunt but he's certainly self-aware.

The singer broke the news of his forthcoming album earlier today with a comical tweet, clearly pre-empting a mixed reaction.

It reads: "If you thought 2016 was bad - I'm releasing an album in 2017."

We'll let you decide whether that's a good or bad thing.

His last effort Moon Landing from 2013 reached No.2 in the charts.

And if his new songs cut across and hit the mark as well as Princess Beatrice did on Ed Sheerin, whilst pretending to night Blunt last month, then he'll do alright.

The rapper has been filmed entering Trump Tower this afternoon.

Earlier today (scroll down) we brought you reports from America on how Trump is apparently struggling to find an A-list star to play his inauguration.

  8. Skepta: in his own words in new documentary trailerpublished at 14:15 GMT 13 December 2016

While for many people, 2016 was a bit of a bust - for Mercury-winner Skepta it was a pretty special 12 months.

Now, Apple Music is showing a new documentary about the grime artist who has gone from the underground to being an (almost) household name.

It's even got Pharrell in it....and judging by the first line it seems Skep' is a Star Wars fan too.

Now listen up, a contestant on American Idol is suing the show after having suffered major ear damage.

Michael Simeon Smith claimed in court that he was fitted with an earpiece that pulled out a portion of his eardrum and caused bleeding when removed. Ouch.

The incident happened on the show two years ago and his claims include negligence and product liability.

The court heard that the "plaintiff has been unable to perform music at the same level as prior to the incident, due to the absence of much of his eardrum.”

One of the defendants Fox Broadcasting Co did not comment at this stage.

    Lady GagaImage source, Getty Images

Lady Gaga has thanked "brave and strong" Madonna for her "inspiring" speech about misogyny in the music industry.

Speaking at the Billboard Women In Music Awards at the weekend, Madge said the most controversial thing she had done "was to stick around" and urged other female performers not to be a "doormat."

A girl power sentiment that was clearly music to Gaga's ears.

Elyse Hollander's film, which follow a young Madonna trying to get a record deal in an apparently sexist New York scene in the 1980s, topped the list with 48 votes.

Entries open on 9 January and close on 23 January for over-16s, with the winners receiving $10,000 and having their films premiered on YouTube next summer.

  20. BBC Music Awards: The winnerspublished at 09:59 GMT 13 December 2016

    AdeleImage source, PA

"Make mine a double, double," said Adele (maybe) after stealing the show at the BBC Music Awards for a second year in a row last night.

The London songstress won the artist and album of the year one-two, following on from last year's British artist and best live performance gongs.

Again she was unable to attend the event at the ExCel in London, but did leave this message from LA.

"I'm so sorry I'm not there.

    Quote Message

It's been a long year on the road and this makes me feel a little less homesick."

    ColdplayImage source, European Photopress Agency

Coldplay were another absent winner at this year's ceremony, accepting their prize for Best British artist from Down Under.

In a video message from Melbourne's Etihad Stadium in Australia, shot just before the band took to the stage, singer Chris Martin said: "Look at all those people - and we love you and we're so grateful and we'll see you so soon."

    The 1975

Despite singer Matty Healy sporting a vest during the performance, The 1975 were still deemed to have pulled off the best Radio 1 Live Lounge of 2016.

"It's a bizarre award," said Matt.

    Quote Message

It's for a performance of a song we didn't write, by an artist who also didn't write it! I don't know how far it goes back... it's probably the guy who did the lights who deserves the credit - but I'll take it!"

Check out their cover of One Direction's What Makes You Beautiful below. Have you seen a better live lounge this year? If so, phone this helpline...
