In the first of the three concerts, the conductor focuses on two of his lesser known but powerful works. Manfred, rarely performed in the concert hall, is one of his most dramatic creations and explores the tormented Byronic hero of the title. Distinguished pianist Kirill Gerstein joins the BBC SO to perform the composer’s Second Piano Concerto.
