About This Event

“All the wrong notes are right!” declared the American insurance dealer-turned composer Charles Ives, and in his Second Symphony he doesn’t hold back. Marching bands and a musical imagination like no other collide in a burst of sonic fireworks, in this most unexpected – and irrepressible – of great American symphonies.

This free concert from the BBC Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Nuno Coelho, is a celebration of composers who knew exactly where they came from, and forged their own path regardless. Isaac Albéniz conjures a Spain that’s wilder and more wonderful than any tourist postcard. And Gustav Mahler’s 'Songs of a Wayfarer' explore the untamed landscape of the human heart itself: a glorious showcase for BBC New Generation Artist Andrew Hamilton.
