Hear experimental pianist and composer Francesco Tristano collaborate with the BBC Concert Orchestra.
Causing as much of a stir in the club scene as in classical concert halls, Tristano is a committed disregarder of limits and rigid practices in music. He draws on his understanding of the conventions that have shaped generations of classical pianists in order to step freely over, around and beyond them.
This concert features his largely improvised piano concerto, Island Nation. With its addition of electronics it gives a spark to the evening. To open the concert Tristano collides with Bach, the Master of the Fugue, to give his own interpretation of the Baroque composer’s intricate and feisty Piano Concerto in D minor.
