This new work, conceived specifically for the Old Fruitmarket and inspired by the 1980s punk sub-genre D-beat, will literally place the audience at the heart of the performance. Ilan Volkov conducts from the centre of the venue with the audience grouped around him as, from the Old Fruitmarket balcony, the BBC SSO perform Richard Youngs’s first ever orchestral work, with the composer himself on electric guitar. In his own words, the work “fuses D-beat, D.I.Y. experimentation and a naive approach to classical form.” An unmissable close to Tectonics 2014.
