Ekkah
Ekkah
Sat 27 Jun 2015 BBC Introducing Stage
Supported by BBC Introducing in the West Midlands

Ekkah make gloriously funky disco-pop with an 80s/90s RnB edge, but it could have all turned out so differently for this duo - Rebecca Wilson (keyboards/saxophone) and Rebekah Pennington (vocals/guitar) - who met in maths class while at school in Birmingham. Originally, they were in emo-ish indie-rock band The Arcadian Kicks, until the group split and they decided to go it alone, and make more club-based music, influenced by everyone from Chic to George Benson, Pharrell to Shamir.

Last year, they uploaded their debut EP, Last Chance to Dance, attracting the attention of 6 Music’s Tom Robinson and Radio 1, who playlisted the EP’s excellent title track. At The Great Escape, they told NME that they have plans to release another EP in the autumn and dream of collaborating with Chic mastermind Nile Rodgers. Judging by the amount of interest in Ekkah, all their wishes may soon come true.
