We welcome back conductor Martyn Brabbins and soloist Lawrence Power who begins this live BBC Radio 3 broadcast with a performance of a work dedicated to him, James MacMillan’s Viola Concerto. The ‘Prelude and Liebestod’ bookends Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, made by Wagner himself, and it was first performed several years before the three-act opera itself was staged.
