We are overjoyed to welcome back to the BBC Philharmonic the award-winning cellist Leonard Elschenbroich. Who better to deliver Haydn’s Cello Concerto in D, an enigmatic but graceful conversation between orchestra and cello?
Completing the programme will be Mendelssohn’s Fourth Symphony – in his own words, “the jolliest piece I have ever done”. Also known as The Italian, it was penned during Mendelssohn’s ‘grand tour’ through Southern Europe at the age of 20.
Today’s session will be in the youthful hands of Lorenzo Viotti, winner of the 2013 Cadaques International Conducting Competition.
