Change of conductor
Leo McFall has sadly had to withdraw. Rory Macdonald has kindly agreed to join us instead.
This programme has been devised by BBC Philharmonic musicians Clare and Peter Dixon and features Elizabeth Watts soprano (pictured).
Their starting point was Strauss’s Metamorphosen, a piece for 23 solo string players that has not previously been performed in their 30 Years in the orchestra. Strauss always wrote music for his orchestral musicians that is both challenging and rewarding. Sometimes his writing is virtuosic and spectacular; in the songs in this programme it is tender and intimate.
