Haydn’s dramatic overture to ‘The Desert Island’, his little-known opera of 1779, opens the final concert in the current season which closes with Beethoven’s joyous, headstrong Fourth Symphony. Laura Samuel, the BBC SSO’s Leader, is soloist in a 20th century masterpiece, Prokofiev’s beautiful Second Violin Concerto.
