Charismatic conductor and Proms star John Wilson takes the baton and leads the orchestra today’s studio concert, broadcast live for BBC Radio 3.

The programme begins with Ireland’s Satyricon-Overture - a musical adaptation based on Petronius's tale about the adventures of three Ancient Roman youths. The orchestra then performs Ravel’s Ma Mère l'Oye: Suite, a charming and delicate suite of fairytale pieces.

The afternoon concludes with Vaughan Williams’ Symphony No. 8 which was premiered in Manchester in 1956.
