 | | | A few facts about Sudbury | |
Sudbury is situated in the lower Dove valley. It's a former estate village and earned its crust mainly as a farming community. The village was dominated for hundreds of years by its relationship with the Vernon family of Sudbury Hall. The hall is an early 17th century house with beautifully restored interiors, including woodcarvings and a richly decorated staircase. Sudbury is equally popular for the Museum of Childhood. Where else can you actually have a go at being a chimney sweep by climbing a purpose built chimney? Sure does make you feel claustrophobic!
Audrey Hitchmough leapt on board the BBC Bus when they visited Sudbury and brought with her a selection of photos of Sudbury through the ages. | | | Audrey's pictures | |

Ladies and their families in the village dressed up for a pageant of Queens.
The WI wrote a play and performed it during the day. Afterwards they were all photographed outside the hall.
The ladies made all of the costumes and everyone chipped in to help out.
