When I was a young lad, Butterly Embankment was a sun-trap in the summer, which drew many a young angler to fish the cool deep waters for perch. Handsome, brightly coloured fighters, they seemed to throw themselves on a bunch of maggots presented on a gilt hook. I used to marvel at the sight of the vertical car-stacking device across the road, in the Butterly works yard. Happy days! Ross Sharp (Massachusetts, USA)
