Get involved on the BBC bus

We want you to be involved in producing output on the BBC bus. Find out what you can do...

Your voice on the radio

There are various ways you could hear your voice on the radio. You could hop onto the bus to record a Thought for the Day or a Breakfast Serial for the BBC Radio Cumbria breakfast show.

Broadcasting
Broadcasting outside the BBC bus

A Thought for the Day can be on any subject you like. A Breakfast Serial is a short story about yourself. A member of the bus team will have a chat with you about it first, then you can sit down and get your ideas down on paper. This gives you the chance to edit it to your liking. Then you can record it, and find out how the team record and edit audio prior to the piece going out on the radio. You will hear your final recording on the Breakfast Show.

Occasionally the BBC bus visits a community for a week, showing the residents how to produce their own breakfast show. Then the live show would be broadcast from the community at the end of the week. This is a fantastic opportunity for the whole community to be involved.

Webpage

You may want to create a webpage about yourself, where you live, about a local issue etc. You can use the facilities on the BBC bus to write your text, take (or scan) some photos, transfer them to the computer and prepare them for the website. The team will help you every step of the way. The end result? You see your work on the BBC Cumbria website.

Photo gallery

You may have a collection of your own photos hidden away that you'd love to share with the rest of the world. Maybe some photos of:

  • an event in your community - past or present.
  • some fascinating family pictures going back in time
  • or a set of pictures that tell a story

With our help you can use the scanner, digital camera or card reader to feed your pictures into a computer on the bus. We can then help you to make the images the right size for the website. Then ultimately, you'll end up with a photo gallery on the BBC Cumbria website.

Digital Story

The Digital Lives section of the BBC Cumbria website contains digital stories in different forms. Some stories are just audio, whilst others are narrated films using your own photos. Some are videos about an aspect of your life.

Editing on the BBC bus

If you are interested in finding out how you can create your own digital story, ask a member of the bus team. In some cases, you will be able to create it using the facilities on the bus. Or if you opt for a Video Nation film, the Video Nation producer will visit you with a video camera and discuss the process with you.

Your work will be seen on the BBC Cumbria website and the BBC bus big TV screen.

Whichever option you choose, we want you to be involved in creating your own output for the BBC!
