What is a community produced programme about?Well simply put that is down to your community. We want to hand BBC Radio Cumbria's breakfast programme over to you. We want you to tell us what you want to hear on the programme, the subjects you want to talk about and the stories you want to cover. Be that local stories or national issues that affect you. We also want to get to know you, so we want your stories about you and your life! We've had examples such as the run up to a wedding that was a catalogue of disasters, a painful meeting with an angry ram, and the story of the man who came face to face with a 600 year old corpse. And we want your thoughts on life and the universe for our Thought for the Day slot. |
The project runs over a week from the BBC Cumbria bus. During that week the bus tutors and journalists will help you tell your stories in the way you'd like to tell them. Over the course of the week we'll help you fine tune your ideas and record your thoughts culminating in the Friday programme coming live from your village hall, school, pub etc. What do we need from you? There are a few things we definitely need. So first things first.. A suitable spot for the BBC Cumbria Bus to park. The community breakfast programme utilises the bus tutors and journalists to help you create the programme. So an easily accessible parking spot for the bus is a must. Secondly to broadcast the programme we need the sole use of a broadband line on the Friday and a standard BT telephone line for the rest of the week. We also need a clear line of sight facing South/South West for our satellite to run the internet. No big trees or blocks of flats in the way! If that means nothing to you don't worry. If we all decide to go ahead then I'll come down and check these things out for myself. But if you could give me an idea that would be great. We really need to park the bus next to the village hub where we will broadcast the programme from. A good hub would be somewhere that the whole village can easily get to on the day. This idea will only work if the community gets involved. We'd like to get to know the whole community. The pub regulars, parents at the school, the people in the post office queue. It will mean a little time spent with us and some time spent chatting and coming up with ideas. So we need to know that people really want to get involved with this. What do you get out of itFor a start fun! The feeling at the end of the Plumbland programme was great for everybody involved - including us. People we spoke to afterwards said they learnt about their neighbours, worked together, strengthened their community, gained confidence, had a once in a lifetime experience, made new friends and got their stories heard. So fancy it? If you could find out about the essentials we need such as the broadband line and the parking, as well as sussing out if people would be up for it then we'll see if we may be able to get something moving.
