Complaint
The programme included a discussion on Gaza and the prospects for Palestinian statehood. A listener complained that it was misleading and biased because it failed to refer to the events of 7 October 2023 or to analyse their impact on Israel’s thinking and military actions. The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the BBC’s editorial standards of accuracy and impartiality.
Outcome
A participant in the discussion referred to the significance of “2023, and the last couple of years”, which listeners would have understood to mean October 7, 2023 and the conflict which followed. The focus of the discussion being on the impact of ongoing military action on the Palestinians and the prospects for a Palestinian state, there was no requirement for it to include an analysis of Israel’s military thinking.
