Complaint
A viewer complained that an item on the interception by the IDF of a convoy attempting to deliver aid to Gaza was too brief to give a duly accurate account of the event and, by using footage provided by the IDF, endorsed the Israeli view of it. The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the BBC’s editorial standards of accuracy and impartiality.
Outcome
The item, though brief, gave an accurate account of what had happened, and it was not a requirement of accuracy to include the arguments against Israel’s action as the complainant had suggested. The use of footage provided by the IDF did not affect the impartiality of an item which included contributions from participants in the flotilla as well as from the Israeli authorities.
