The goals kept coming for Manchester City

It was a brilliant display from City which coincided with the official takeover 正式接管/收购 of the club by its new Middle Eastern owners, Abu Dhabi United Group.

City fans were astonished and delighted three weeks ago when their team was bought by Sheikh 酋长 Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family.

Sheikh Mansour is the latest multi-billionaire 亿万富翁 to buy a Premier League team, following in the footsteps of men like Roman Abramovich and Thaksin Shinawatra.

However, the wealth 财富 of the Abu Dhabi royal family makes other billionaires look poor.

Manchester City’s new oil rich 石油巨富 owners are estimated to be worth around $1 trillion (7,000 billion yuan).

The club has already set a new Premier League record with the £32.5m (400m yuan) signing （转会）签约 of Brazilian striker Robinho from Real Madrid.

Their investment 投资 seems to be paying off 得以回报 already with two goals in three games from Robinho.

City manager Mark Hughes was happy with his new signing, saying Robinho would "rightly grab the headlines" - meaning the newspapers would focus on the Brazilian’s excellent performance.

"He is not only technically outstanding 技术上超群的 but he has a great work ethic 职业道德 and understands how he can affect a game," Hughes added.

As the goals flew in for City, Portsmouth’s defence began to unravel 漏洞百出, with goalkeeper David James making a series of blunders 过失; James’s position as England number one must surely now be under threat.

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp described his team’s performance as "abysmal" 糟糕透顶的 and full of "errors".

Redknapp will be hoping for a better display from his side when they face a rampant 凶猛的 Chelsea in the Carling Cup on Wednesday.
