Testing Times for Spurs 对热刺的考验时刻
We're two weeks into the new season, and while Chelsea are already in a commanding position 占居榜首 at the top of the Premiership table, their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are in a bit of a pickle 处于困境. Tottenham currently share the bottom spot 和另一队同处末位 with fellow strugglers 同名相连的 West Brom, Wigan and Portsmouth, all of whom have zero points from their opening two games 本赛季前两场比赛 this year. High-spending Spurs 热刺 are an ambitious club who splashed out 大肆挥霍,花大价钱 on big-name midfielders such as David Bentley and Luka Modric this summer. But while their midfield now looks packed with talent 才华横溢,球技高超, it is their forward line that is a little thin. The main problem is their star striker Dimitar Berbatov. The unsettled 不知去向的 striker has been linked with 与某事联系在一起 a move to Manchester United all summer, and now appears to have lost motivation 失去激情 to play for Spurs. The incredibly gifted 有天赋的 Bulgarian was even left out of the squad 没参加比赛(没有到比赛现场) for their last game, which Tottenham lost 1-0 at Sunderland.
Spurs boss Juande Ramos said he doesn't think Berbatov is "focused enough" and is worried he will "not be good for the dressing room." The dressing room 更衣室 is the name of the room where footballers get changed into their kit before a game. It is also the place where the manager talks about tactics 战术 before a game and during half-time. When Ramos says Berbatov will be bad for the dressing room, he means he will be a negative influence on the other players when they are getting ready to play.
Tottenham's first-team coach 助理教练 Gus Poyet backed this up, saying that Berbatov was "not in the right frame of mind" to play at the weekend. By this he means that Berbatov was not mentally 精神上 ready to play. So what next for Berbatov? Spurs will be hoping that Manchester United will make an offer 出价 before the 1st of September, which is the deadline for transfers 转会的最后期限. The question is how much Manchester United are willing to pay. Spurs' asking price 要价 is around £30m (378m yuan), but Manchester United are not expected to want to offer much more than £20m (250m yuan). United boss Sir Alex Ferguson now has until the end of the week to decide if he wants to cough up 支付钱财, so fans of both clubs will be following developments eagerly until then. | 相关内容 The New Season 英超新赛季2008年8月18日 | 英语教学 Learning English The Goal that Cost £12m 一失足成千古恨2008年8月11日 | 英语教学 Learning English Olympic Pride and Predictions 奥运的荣誉和预言2008年8月05日 | 英语教学 Learning English Football at the Games 奥运会的足球比赛2008年7月28日 | 英语教学 Learning English Changing Chelsea 变化中的切尔西2008年7月21日 | 英语教学 Learning English Scoring Goals for Africa 为非洲进球2008年7月14日 | 英语教学 Learning English Transfer Roundup 转会综述2008年7月07日 | 英语教学 Learning English Victory at Last for Spain 西班牙终于夺冠2008年6月30日 | 英语教学 Learning English
