What is Easter?

Easter is a very special festival in the Christian calendar. It celebrates Jesus rising from the dead, three days after he was executed. The week leading up to Easter Sunday is called Holy Week, which includes Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

When is Easter 2026?

Easter takes place on Sunday 5 April 2026.

How to prepare for Easter

Easter Sunday is the time when Christians celebrate Jesus coming back to life. There are lots of things to remind us of this because it is spring and new life is all around us.

Toby and his friends are visiting the baby animals on a farm, they even get to hold little chicks. Chicks hatch out of eggs and eggs are really important at Easter. Toby also picks lots of flowers for church from the church grounds. Picking flowers from your own garden with a grown-ups permission is fine but remember picking flowers, even daffodils from parks or grass verges isn't allowed.

How to celebrate Easter

Toby and his family have hot cross buns for breakfast, the cross reminds us of the cross Jesus died on before he rose again. The bells ring at the church for the special day and Toby and his friends put their flowers on the cross, the cross is made out of wood from a recycled Christmas tree. Once the cross is finished it is taken into church for everyone to see.
