What is Easter? Simple Easter story for pre-schoolers

Watch this simple Easter story for pre-school children, using beautiful sand paintings to tell the story of Jesus coming back to life.

When Jesus died his body was put in a tomb and a big stone was put over the entrance so nobody could get in. Two days later, Jesus's friend Mary went to the tomb and discovered that the stone had been rolled away and Jesus's body was gone. At first Mary was really sad, who had taken her friend? But then she heard a voice, she turned around and saw Jesus, he was alive! Mary ran off to tell all of Jesus's friends that he'd come back to life. For many days afterwards Jesus met with Mary and his friends, he talked with them and ate with them, and taught them lots of things. Then he went home to heaven.

Easter takes place on Sunday 5 April 2026.
