Make a Mother's Day pop-up card
This Mother's Day, amaze your Mum or special someone who cares for you with this brilliant pop-up card!
- Our template (download below)
- One sheet of card or paper, to make the card
- Glue
- Scissors
- Materials to decorate your card
- A paperclip
Step one
Download our template above. The card is made from three rectangles.
You can either use the measurements to draw your own rectangles, or print out the template onto paper or coloured card.
Rectangle one: 10cm x 20cm
Rectangle two: 5cm x 18cm
Rectangle three: 5cm x 16cm
Step two
Cut out the three rectangles.
Step three
Fold each piece of card:
Rectangle one:
Fold in half, making a square card.
Rectangle two:
Fold into four sections, making 'W' shape.
Rectangle three:
Fold along one of the diagonal lines marked on the template, then unfold it, fold along the other diagonal line, then unfold again.
Next fold lengthways down the centre line, so you have a long narrow strip. Unfold it again.
Finally, holding the rectangle flat, push your finger into the centre of the 'X' folds, while bringing the two ends towards you. The two ends should fold lengthways down the line you folded earlier as you bring them towards you. You should be left with a tall house shape, with two triangle 'roof' sections at the top. Check the video below to make sure yours is folded correctly.
Step four
Apply glue to the two triangle areas marked on rectangle one.
Line up the triangle 'roof' sections of rectangle three with the triangle areas of glue on rectangle one, and press it into the glue as shown below.
Step five
Now we need to glue rectangle two onto rectangle three. Apply glue to two diagonally opposite corners of rectangle three, as shown below, then press rectangle two into place, lined up with the edges of rectangle three.
Step six
Now get creative and decorate the card however you like! We stuck on some patterned paper, and words written on different colour card.
Finally, you may wish to keep the card shut using a paperclip.
