Tower of Celery

Great fun to play and it tastes delicious too!

A stacked tower of celery.
You will need
  • 3 heads green celery (you’ll need 18 sticks)
  • 280g tub full-fat soft cheese or cream cheese
  • 3 tbsp finely chopped fresh chives
  • 1 garlic clove, peeled and crushed

Remember – grown ups like you to tell them if you’re cooking with hot or sharp things!

STEPS

SERVES 12, AS A SNACK

  • Trim the celery and separate into evenly-sized sticks (You won’t need all the celery as the wider or very thin sticks don’t stack as well.) Wash the sticks and drain very well.

  • Cut the sticks into 18 x 9cm lengths. (You can get extra layers in the stack with even more sticks.)

  • To make the filling, put the cheese in a bowl and mix with the chives and garlic.

  • Using a teaspoon, one at a time spread a little of the cheese mixture into the hollow of each of the celery stick and place in a row of four on a stable board.

  • Top with four more filled sticks of celery, placed in the opposite direction to the first ones. Repeat the layers until all the celery is used.

  • Play the game by carefully taking out celery sticks, while preventing the tower from toppling for as long as possible.
