Make snow at home for Christmas
Did we hear you say that all you want for Christmas is snow? Join CBeebies' Maddie Moate, Rhys Stephenson, Ben Cajee and Dodge to make your own snow, build a snowman and watch it all 'melt' away with this super cool, fizzing science experiment.
- Bicarbonate of soda
- Hair conditioner
- Decorations for your snowman
- Vinegar
How to make your own mini snowman! ☃️
1. Creating the snow and snowman
Add the bicarbonate of soda to a large bowl.
Gradually add the hair conditioner until you have a crumbly consistency that resembles snow!
Once you have your fake snow you can start building your snowman.
Start to shape your snow into three balls, large for the base, medium the body and small for the head. On a tray or plate, assemble the snowballs and carefully place them on top of each other.
Add decorations to bring your snowman to life. Maybe you have a scarf or a little hat, GET CREATIVE!
2. Fizzing the snowman away!
Now for the fun part! Instead of your snowman melting, it's time to fizz it away.
Pour the vinegar over the top of the snowman and watch it disappear with a fizz and fizzle! How cool!
Why did that happen?
Vinegar is an acid, and bicarbonate of soda is an alkali, which is the opposite. When the two combine, a chemical reaction happens and a gas called carbon dioxide is released. This makes the bubbles of gas that you can see fizzing the snowman away!
