Find out how to make a bird feeder in under 5 minutes

This super simple guide comes from a wonderful idea by BP Fan Beatrice, who helped Joel make this lovely bird feeder on Blue Peter!

It's so easy to make, you only need a handful of things to work with, most of which you probably have at home already.

Make sure you check out the list of things you'll need, then follow these easy step-by-step instructions. You'll be best friends with the birds in your gardens and green spaces in no time!

Steps to make an easy bird feeder

Step 1

Pour some bird seed out onto your plate. If you don't have any at home, it's usually readily available in lots of supermarkets and garden centres.

Step 2

Take your peanut butter (or vegetable/beef suet) and slather it all over the outside of your toilet roll tube. This makes sure the roll is nice and sticky for the bird seed. This step can get messy!

Step 3

Once your roll is nice and sticky, drop it onto the plate of birdseed and spin it round to get the entire outside coated in lots and lots of seeds. Be careful to not squash the tube!

Step 4

Once the tube is coated in plenty of seeds, thread the 30cm of string straight through the middle of the tube and tie the two ends in a knot on the outside. This is so you can hang it on a tree outside for all your local birds to enjoy!

Where to hang your bird feeder

Now that your bird feeder is ready, it's time to find a suitable spot to hang it up for the birds to reach it!

If you find tying a knot fiddly, hard, or if you simply don't have any string you can always just thread a branch through the tube directly onto the tree.
