  1. 1.What is this group?

The BBC have made three new TV series featuring Britain's buildings past, present and future – ‘How We Built Britain’ on BBC One, ‘Britain in Pictures’ on BBC Four and ‘Building Britain’ on regional channels. This photo group is a chance for people to share their favourite photos of British buildings and create a huge photo gallery. It is being hosted on Flickr - a photo sharing site.

  2. 2.What will the BBC do with the photos?

    What's in this gallery

The BBC will feature photos from the Flickr BBC Britain in Pictures group on the BBC website, the BBC’s interactive TV service, and BBC Big Screens. Some photos may also be featured in exhibitions across the UK as part of other public service activities and events that are connected with the BBC TV series ('How We Built Britain', 'Britain in Pictures' and 'How We are Building Britain'. For more details read the full terms and conditions

  3. 3.What's in it for me?

Apart from the fun of helping to create a fantastic gallery of the nation’s favourite (or most reviled!) buildings, the twenty most popular photos will be exhibited at Britain's National Media Museum and their owners will receive framed copies of their photo once the exhibition is over.

  4. 4.How are the 'Favourite Twenty' photos being chosen?

On August 1st 2007, the 1000 most popular photos in the group will be shown to a judging panel consisting of professional photographers who took part in the BBC Britain in Pictures TV series. The panel will choose their favourite twenty favourite photos and these will be exhibited at Britain's National Media Museum. The 'Favourite Twenty' will also be shown in a gallery on the BBC website for users to rate. Rating commences between August 10th and August 13th and ends on August 31st. The results will be announced in early September 2007.

  5. 5.Who is on the photographers' panel?

The panel is made up of professional photographers who appeared in the BBC Four series 'Britain in Pictures'. They are: Emily Allchurch, Tom Ang, Suki Dhanda, Sam Faulker, Jill Furmanovsky, Martine Hamilton-Knight, Finlay Mackay, Mike Perry, Karina Sutherland and Nick Wood.

  6. 6.Why is the National Media Museum exhibiting the photos?

Britain's National Media Museum is one of the BBC's partners in the outreach programme connected to the BBC TV series 'Britain in Pictures'. They plan to exhibit the favourite twenty photographs selected by the panel of professional photographers whose work will also be featured as part of the exhibition. The show will run from July 2007 to January 2008. Details can be found here.
