Comic Relief

Your chance to tell gags at Glastonbury

So you think you’re funny? Do you think you’ve got the bottle to stand up on stage and deliver your best gags to a big live audience?

Stand Up for the Big One logo

BBC West is giving aspiring local comic talent the chance to raise some vital cash for Comic Relief through the joy of laughter.

We've got a chance for you to get people in stitches at Jongleurs in Bristol or maybe even to perform in front of thousands at 2007's Glastonbury Festival in Somerset.

All you need to do is send in your videos and make us laugh. The funniest will go forward to a vote on this website.

Eight finalists from the poll will then go before a discerning live audience and panel of celebrity judges at Jongleurs.

If your jokes hit the right funny bones then you could be entertaining a comedy tent filled with Glastonbury Festival revellers in need of some comic relief from the West Country weather this summer.

So whatever your style of humour, level of experience or fan base of mates, if you think you have some fresh talent to offer then email or send in the post two minutes of yourself being funny to camera and help cheer everyone up.

HINTS AND TIPS: Mark Olver coached singer Jane Gilchrist for a gig at Jongleurs in Bristol - find out how she got on and read Mark's tips for being a better stand-up comedian.

Before you start practising in front of your mates please note that all auditions should be no longer than two minutes in length and either recorded digitally via video phone, web cam or by visiting our roaming Comedy Cam in February - dates at the bottom of the page.

To enter you must be a non-professional performer, live in the West TV region and be over 18 years of age.

Entries should be emailed to [email protected] or posted to Stand Up for the Big One, c/o Jenny Walmsley, BBC Bristol, Whiteladies Road, Bristol, BS8 2LR and must reach us before noon on Friday, 16 February 2007.

Entries can be accepted as WMV, MPEG, QuickTime and 3gp files or on DVD, VHS, and BETA. Unfortunately we are unable to return any tapes.

The best entries from each of the catchments areas within BBC Radio Gloucestershire, BBC Radio Bristol, BBC Radio Swindon, BBC Radio Wiltshire and BBC Somerset Sound will then be made available to watch on each station’s BBC Where I Live website and will be the subject of a public vote.
